slanted wall bedroom colors

What colors work best in a bedroom with slanted walls?

Slanted walls can be a beautiful feature of a bedroom, but if you’re not careful they can also be a burden. We’ve said it before – they can be both a blessing and a curse.

One of the best ways to ensure they are viewed as a beautiful feature rather than a curse however is to paint them with the right colors.

But what are the right colors? What colors work best on slanted walls? And what colors should be avoided at all costs?

Let’s take a look.

What colors work best in a bedroom with slanted walls?

When it comes to choosing colors for a bedroom with slanted walls, the key is to create a space that feels open, airy, and above all else – large!

Slanted walls often have a reputation for making bedrooms that have them seem smaller than they actually are, but this is largely due to how these bedrooms are designed.

Let’s look at some good color options to use in slanted wall bedrooms:

White

A crisp, clean white can help to brighten up the space and make it feel more spacious, which is exactly the aim of the game when working with slanted walls.

This is because lighter colours make a room look larger, and you can get much lighter than white!

This is especially true if your bedroom gets a lot of natural light, which we speak about more in our article about bedroom mirror placement.

Light neutrals

You’re not just limited to white when choosing a color that will brighten up your bedroom – light neutrals can achieve the same effect with a little bit of character too!

When it comes to using light neutral colors in your bedroom, you’ve got a few to choose from, but it’s essential you do choose one of these the ‘right’ shades.

Light shades of beige, gray, ivory and even cocoa are the most effective in creating a spacious and open atmosphere.

Avoid using darker neutral shades like brown or dark gray, as they can make the room feel small and closed-in, which is the last thing you want when you have a sloped wall!

Pastels

Soft, muted pastels can add a touch of color without overwhelming your space. Think pale pinks, blues, greens, or yellows.

Of course, there are many pastel colors to choose from, but not all of them are created equal. Some pastels are more calming and relaxing, while others can be quite stimulating.

When it comes to making a bedroom feel more spacious, it’s best to choose light, cool-toned pastel colors like the ones we’ve listed above. In addition, lavender is a great choice for creating both a serene and expansive atmosphere.

Don’t just take my word for it – try it out yourself!

Warm neutrals

If you prefer warmer tones, consider shades of cream, ivory, or even a light caramel or tan. All of these colors can create a warm, cozy atmosphere in the bedroom, and your slanted walls will actually help to make the room appear more snug.

And luckily for us, the natural color of wood fits into this category perfectly, so if you’ve got an attic bedroom with slanted wooden walls, leave the wood with its natural finish!

The beauty of using warm neutral colours as well is that it allows you to keep things simple, while still speaking volumes. We talk about the idea of keeping the design of slanted walled bedrooms simple in our article here.

What colors don’t work best in a bedroom with slanted walls?

We’ve gone through the types of colours that are best suited to bedrooms with slanted walls, but we always want you to experiment with your space and try your own thing.

With that in mind, it might be a good idea to go through some colors that definitely will not work. You know what they say – it’s good to learn from your own mistakes, but its better if you can learn from other people’s mistakes!

Dark colors

Dark colors are not recommended for bedrooms with slanted walls. And the reason why is that they will make your room feel much smaller and more cramped than it actually is.

When we talk about dark colors, we’re referring to colors like black, dark brown, and deep blues.

Bright colors

As well as dark colors, it’s also a good suggestion to steer clear of bright, in your face colors.

Bright colors, like neon green, hot pink, and vibrant orange are going to be too bold and overpowering in any bedroom, but especially a bedroom with walls angled in.

As well, they will create a jarring contrast with the angle of the wall as it meets the ceiling, making the space feel unbalanced.

If you’re a real fan of bright colors however and simply must have them in your bedroom, try choosing muted versions of them, like a soft pink or light green.
